Scottish duo Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee formed the Vaselines in the mid-1980s, creating lo-fi, lo-budget punk-pop that was absurd, bawdy, and genuinely funny. Sub Pop reissued and expanded this compilation as a triple LP in 2009, collecting their best work with remastered sound. The Vaselines sound is deliberately homemade—cheap, cheerful, and rebellious, with deadpan vocals and simple arrangements that somehow land harder than slick production ever could. Songs about sex, relationships, and teenage angst get a darkly comic treatment. Kurt Cobain covered them, which brought renewed attention. A rare triple LP edition that's become collectible, especially for indie rock enthusiasts.
