An airwashed stretch satin — tumbled and washed during finishing to deliver a vintage-soft, broken-in hand straight from the bolt. 150 gsm, 96% polyester / 4% spandex, 19 curated colorways.
Airwashed Satin is a 150 gsm woven stretch satin engineered around its finishing process. Where most stretch satins ship crisp and lightly sized, this fabric is tumbled and washed during finishing to relax the satin face, soften the hand, and add a slightly broken-in character designers usually have to coax out of a fabric over time. The result is a stretch satin that reads pre-softened — fluid, quietly lustrous, and lived-in from the first cut. Composition is 96% polyester and 4% spandex (one extra point of spandex over our standard silky stretch satin), milled at 57/58" wide. Country of origin: China.

At 150 gsm this is too light for full flat tablecloths or heavy floor-length banquet drops — use a heavier bridal-weight satin for those. For crisp formal event linen, choose a heavyweight satin instead.
Softness is the product here. The face reads cool and smooth, but with a softened, slightly relaxed surface rather than the glassy feel of a raw stretch satin. The reverse is quietly matte. Drape is fluid and body-following: the cloth folds rather than creases, and falls in soft, rounded folds rather than sharp pleats. The 4% spandex registers as a comfortable lateral give with clean recovery — supportive, not athletic. Sheen reads as a soft glow with a barely-there haze, closer to pearl than to mirror. If you have ever pulled an old slip dress from a vintage rack and noticed how the satin feels lived-in rather than new, that is the hand we are reaching for.

What is airwashed satin?
A satin that has been mechanically tumbled and washed during finishing to relax the satin face, break any residual sizing, and soften the hand. The result is a satin that feels pre-softened and broken-in straight from the bolt — closer in hand to a fabric that has already been worn and laundered than to a brand-new, crisp satin. Different mills use different names: air-wash, sand-wash, peach-finish.
How is it different from a standard crisp stretch satin?
A standard stretch satin ships crisp and lightly sized — that crispness only softens after several wears or washes. Airwashed Satin is delivered already softened, with a vintage-soft face and fluid drape from the first cut. Visually, the sheen is a soft glow with light haze rather than a bright, hard reflection.
Does the airwash finish wear off?
The finish is mechanical, not a coating, so it does not wash off in a single laundering. Heavy, repeated, high-heat laundering will flatten the character over time. Cold wash and air dry to protect the finish.
Is it good for soft / boho bridal?
Yes. The softened sheen reads romantic and lived-in rather than new-fabric shiny — the register most soft bridal looks are after. For structured bridal (ball gowns, corseted bodices), choose a heavyweight bridal satin instead.
Is it good for ceremony drapery, chair sashes and napkins?
Yes. The pre-softened hand drapes in organic, slightly broken-in folds favored by bohemian and modern relaxed weddings — ideal for arches, swags and soft-fall backdrops where stiff pleats would read wrong. Sashes tie cleanly without bulk; napkins hem cleanly and feel noticeably softer in hand than a raw stretch satin.
Is it good for full tablecloths?
No. At 150 gsm it is too light to sit elegantly on a full table — it will lift and billow. Use a 220+ gsm satin and seam to width for proper banquet linens.
