Product Description: This is a strand of Etched Carnelian Beads.
Note: As this item is an antique, it may have scratches, cracks, or chips.
Era: 2500 BCE to 1800 BCE
These beads originate from the Indus Valley Civilization. Patterns on the carnelian beads were etched using a liquid derived from plants called natron and then fired at low temperatures of approximately 300 to 400 degrees Celsius. While they are also found in archaeological sites in Mesopotamia and Afghanistan, it is believed that these beads were made in the Indus Valley region and then transported via land and sea routes.
