I'm sure everyone can guess what wheated bourbon this rum was finished in. Recently, I made a joke to someone that bourbon drinkers would only try rum if it was finished in one of these barrels. There are some incredible rums out there! I think everyone should explore the rum category more. This Venezuelan rum is delicious. Instead of resting on the finishing barrel we took it to a blind tasting. We tasted through Venezuelan rum finished in a brandy, double oaked bourbon and wheated bourbon barrel. I was prepared to take whatever won the tasting. Sure enough, after everyone weighed in with their opinion, barrel WLR-224057 was the favorite! Maybe I was wrong and bourbon drinkers just know what makes the best finishing barrel and it's less about the name? Either way, this is a rum that everyone will enjoy.
