This album was a departure from previous record War Master (1991) with the evolution of the band's sound revealing much slower tempos, heavy riffs and thick tones. Death/doom leaning songs like "This Time It's War" and "As the World Burns" showcase the influence of bands like Candlemass and Pentagram. Bolt Thrower'scredibility in the genre is unquestioned with seminal scouser John Peel being an avid fan.
