Scolecite is a hydrous calcium aluminum silicate mineral (CaAl₂Si₃O₁₀·3H₂O) belonging to the zeolite group. It crystallizes in slender, needle-like formations and radiating sprays, often appearing white, colorless, or pale pink. With a Mohs hardness of 5-5.5, it is relatively soft and delicate, making it better suited for carvings, cabochons, and mineral collections rather than faceted jewelry. Scolecite forms in basalt and volcanic cavities, with major sources including India, Iceland, Brazil, and the United States. It has excellent cleavage and is often found alongside other zeolites such as stilbite and heulandite, prized for its fibrous structure and silky luster.
