This pouch contains 200g of Organic New Zealand Wheatgrass powder (Triticum aestivum). This product is Vegan Society certified, Soil Association Organic Certified and for every pack sold Rainforest Foods will donate funds to Rainforest Concern to purchase one square meter of cloud forest to expand the Neblina Reserve in Ecuador. Wheatgrass is the leafy growth of the young wheat plant (Triticum aestivum). Although wheat has been used as a cereal crop for millennia, the leafy part of the plant has only been consumed by humans since agricultural research into its effectiveness as a dietary supplement in the 1930s. It is packed with nutrients, including essential vitamins, minerals, enzymes, phytonutrients and all the essential amino acids. A notable component of Wheatgrass is the green pigment chlorophyll, which allows plants to convert light into energy via photosynthesis. Wheatgrass contains Vitamins A, B2, B9, C and E and minerals which include Chromium, Iron, Manganese and Potassium. We source our Wheatgrass from an organic farm in Canterbury, New Zealand. It is harvested while the plant is still young, below 30 cm tall. Within 1-6 hours of harvest the Barley grass is transported to an organically certified dehydrating company, where the moisture content is reduced to approximately 4% by air dryers. The drying process takes between 20 and 25 minutes. Once dried, the powder is milled, first to particles of approximately 150 - 200 microns, then 50 microns.
