Designed by Isamu Noguchi in 1951, the Akari Light Sculptures are a series of handcrafted paper lamps that bring a warm, diffused glow to interiors. Each piece is made in Japan using traditional washi paper and bamboo ribbing, combining time-honoured craft with a modern sculptural form. The Akari 1A is one of the most recognised designs in the series.

Compact in size with a distinctive sculptural character, it serves equally well as a table lamp or a small accent light. The hand-made shade softens the light to create a calm, atmospheric presence, while the slender frame keeps the design feeling light and balanced. Part of Noguchi’s wider Akari collection, the 1A embodies his vision of lighting as "sculpture for daily use", functional, poetic, and timeless.
