Daniel Bjarnason and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra
Description:
Iceland's leading orchestra, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, has long supported the country's culture since its founding in 1950, and was scheduled to visit Japan in 2008, but unfortunately, due to the financial crisis, it was canceled at the last minute, much to the dismay of Japanese fans. Bjarnason, who is currently the orchestra's artist-in-residence for 2017, has served in a variety of roles as conductor, composer, and teacher, and has been widely praised both in concert and on recordings for his ambitious take on contemporary music, including his own compositions. In addition to his own works, the album also features a lineup of experimental works, including imaginative pieces by Solvaldsdottir, a renowned Icelandic female composer, and works by Vilmarsson, a well-known rock band member, and Jonsdottir, who explores the boundaries between electronic music and acoustic sound. The program is available for purchase. Naxos Japan
