Pippa Holt creates kaftans with Mexican artisans that are handmade using traditional techniques. Decorated with burgandy motifs, this version is cut from mint and white striped cotton and has a relaxed calf-length silhouette.

The burgundy colour comes from the cochineal insect from which the natural dye ‘carmine’ is derived. Native to the village in Mexico with the kaftans are created, this insect lives on cacti feeding on plant moisture and nutrients. These insects are found on the pads of prickly pear cacti, then are brushed off and dried to create the dye.
