Leaking shaft seals are one of the most common causes of gearbox oil loss, differential contamination, and premature bearing failure. Whether you are rebuilding a tractor PTO shaft, replacing a worn axle seal, or servicing industrial rotating equipment, finding the exact replacement seal in the right size is often the hardest part. This listing covers TC double lip NBR oil seals with inner diameters from 140mm to 160mm (≈5.51" to 6.30"), offered across a wide range of outer diameters and depths to match your specific housing.
Each seal follows the R23 / TC / TTO double-lip design standard. The body is constructed from nitrile rubber (NBR) bonded to a steel shell, with a garter spring behind the primary sealing lip to maintain consistent radial contact force. Inner diameters range from 140mm (≈5.51") to 160mm (≈6.30"); outer diameters range from approximately 155mm to 250mm (≈6.10" to 9.84"); depths (widths) range from approximately 7mm to 20mm (≈0.28" to 0.79"). Available in packs of 1, 2, 5, or 10 pieces depending on the size selected.
Typical applications include agricultural tractor rear axle and PTO shaft seals, heavy-duty truck and trailer wheel hub seals, industrial gearbox output shaft seals, and hydraulic pump shaft seals where a spring-loaded double lip rotary shaft seal is specified. The NBR compound resists petroleum-based oils, gear lubricants, and hydraulic fluids across a broad operating temperature range.

Measure the shaft diameter (inner Ø), the bore diameter (outer Ø), and the housing depth. Match all three to the variant listed as Inner Ø × Outer Ø × Depth (all in mm). For example, a 150 × 180 × 15 seal fits a 150mm (≈5.91") shaft, a 180mm (≈7.09") bore, and a 15mm (≈0.59") deep housing. If you only have inch measurements, multiply by 25.4 to convert to mm.
TC (also called TTO or R23) refers to a double-lip radial shaft seal design. The primary lip retains lubricant; the secondary dust lip keeps contaminants out. This is the most widely used general-purpose seal type across automotive, industrial, and agricultural equipment. Seals from different manufacturers with the same TC designation and identical dimensions are generally interchangeable.
TC-type NBR oil seals are generally rated for low-to-moderate shaft speeds and static pressures up to approximately 0.3 bar (4.4 psi). For higher-pressure applications, a PTFE-lipped or spring-energized seal is typically recommended. Contact us to confirm suitability for your specific application.
NBR (nitrile rubber) offers good resistance to water, oil, and mild chemicals, making it suitable for many outdoor and wet environments. However, NBR is generally not recommended for prolonged UV exposure or ozone-rich environments. For harsh outdoor conditions, a FKM (Viton) seal is typically a better choice. The secondary dust lip on TC seals does provide additional protection against water and mud ingress.
NBR oil seals generally operate reliably in a temperature range of approximately -40°C to +120°C (-40°F to +248°F). Short-term peaks up to +130°C are typically tolerated. For continuous high-temperature applications above 120°C, FKM (Viton) material is generally recommended.
NBR is generally compatible with mineral-based oils, gear oils, hydraulic fluids, and many synthetic lubricants. It is not recommended for use with phosphate-ester fluids, ketones, or highly aromatic fuels. If you are unsure about fluid compatibility, contact us to confirm before ordering.
Clean the housing bore and shaft. Lightly lubricate the seal lips with the fluid being sealed. Press the seal squarely into the bore using a seal driver or a flat plate — never hammer directly on the seal face. Ensure the seal is flush or slightly below the housing face. Avoid nicking the primary lip on shaft keyways or splines during installation.
These seals are available in packs of 1, 2, 5, or 10 pieces depending on the size selected. For a single repair, a 1-pack is sufficient. Workshops and fleet operators typically find the 5- or 10-pack more economical for recurring maintenance tasks on tractors, trucks, or industrial equipment.
